PWM invests in the next generation

This month, we were delighted to facilitate an interactive, two-day “Introduction to Finance” course to just over 30 students, at our City office. Our aims were to equip these individuals with the basics of financial planning and investment, and to provide them with an overview of careers paths in the City.

The course was initially offered to 12 individuals but, due to overwhelming levels of interest, more than 30 students were in attendance. We proved our passion for evolving financial knowledge in the next generation of young professionals with the essential financial know-how. Members of our rapidly expanding team delivered a successful programme of presentations on stimulating topics which included: how UK tax works, types of investment, life money skills (student debt, how to get on the housing ladder, budgets and clever long-term saving), financial crime, and sustainable investing.

Once a niche area of finance, sustainable investing is now far more mainstream, with a growing realisation that investors have a significant role to play in addressing the environmental and social challenges the world is facing. Already acknowledged by The Times this month as ‘green advisers’, we once again proved our commitment to this increasingly important financial subject, by inviting Head of Responsible Investment Service at Brooks Macdonald, Ben Palmer, to present. His talk focused on how investors can support wider sustainability agendas, whilst maintaining a focus on financial performance.

Speaking after last week’s course, our Managing Partner, James Roberts, commented: “Preparing the next generation for their future is something we are hugely engaged with at PWM. It’s a financial jungle out there and young people need trustworthy, reputable advice to follow when making these all-important decisions about their money, and when they are considering their future careers. We are delighted that the workshop was so well attended and received and will certainly facilitate other programmes for the next generation”.
