As those of you who have been sharing our journey may be aware, PWM is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month!
Inevitably, such a milestone has led to a certain level of reflection amongst our founding partners and all those that have joined the firm over its 20 year history. The vision for PWM was clear – to be the leading independent financial planner in the UK. The firm’s guiding principles have been based on dedication to our clients and offering investment independence. Our Partnership commitment has always been to our clients, our team and our professional connections.
Our history
PWM was established in 2004 by Tim Davies, John Sutton, James Roberts and Mark Waring, who had a clear vision of what they wanted to deliver in the financial services arena for their clients.
They had all previously been part of larger organisations and were motivated to establish a firm that prioritised their clients in a truly independent manner.
Tim Davies (Partner and Head of PWM Private Office) – “We were trying to create an unrivalled and market-leading independent financial advisory practice, which provided the very best solutions and experience for clients whilst delivering on every aspect of their financial needs.”
James Roberts (Head of Strategy & Proposition Private Wealth and former Managing Partner) – “There was a deep consensus about our aspiration for what good looked like for clients and ourselves. In short, we wanted to be free to give independent advice, representing the client as we as advisers felt best, while providing information to clients with leading technology.”
John Sutton (Retiring Partner) – “The founders of PWM aimed to transform the advisory marketplace. As the firm grew, it attracted like-minded individuals who shared our vision, commitment and determination to provide the best for clients.”
David Stoll (Senior Partner) – “Over the last 20 years the firm has gone from strength to strength. We now look after c. £3.8 billion assets under management, with currently 125 people in the team including 55 advisers. Throughout our history, our outstanding track record of retaining advisers stands as a testament to the firm’s culture of unity, care, and respect. What has been achieved over this period has surpassed our founders’ collective expectations.”
PWM started in a small office (as one would expect) off Lombard Street, and to meet our continual expansion has travelled, as many of our clients can attest to, via Gresham Street, Old Bailey, St Andrew Street and to our present home of 1 Angel Court.
By 2020, PWM had grown into an established, well-respected independent financial advice advisory firm with a reputation for excellence. As the Covid-19 pandemic made significant changes to the financial landscape, we knew that we needed to improve our technological and reporting offering to continue delivering an ever-better level of client service – and so our partnership with investment management firm 7IM was born.
We are delighted that we have been and are increasingly recognised for our leading financial planning solutions and exemplary client care. This does not mean we will ever stop striving to be better.
We are also proud of our charity fundraising, and strongly encourage fundraising initiatives, often giving our colleagues the opportunity to choose the charities they would like to support.
Our future
Now in 2024, twenty years later, and with recent changes in the firm’s management, the future is looking ever better for both the firm and our clients. PWM is well positioned to continue to provide excellent service.
While Fiona Oliver (Managing Partner) and Greg Young (Chief Operations Partner) represent the new leadership, both have been with the firm for many years, ensuring consistency. This is reinforced by David Stoll, who continues as our Senior Partner.
Fiona Oliver (Managing Partner) – “My vision for PWM is to be the leading independent financial planner in the UK, providing expert advice to families nationwide. Our mission is to give our clients complete clarity on how to achieve their financial freedom.”
Greg Young (Chief Operations Partner) – “Just as our founding partners aspired to be the best IFA in London, we will never rest on our laurels because what excellence looks like in the financial services industry is always changing. We are well positioned to move into the future with confidence.”
